MARY T. SMITH, 89, of Martins Ferry, made her journey home to the Lord after a brief illness, Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. She was born May 10, 1919 in Loydsville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Earl and Lena (Gilham) Shoulter. Mary was a loving wife and mother who spent her life in service to others. She loved children and was a leader of the Sunny Hill Girl Scout Troop #224 for over 60 years. She taught at the Lansing Grade School for many years and sang for 17 years with the Ohio Valley Chorale. She was a member of the former West Bridgeport Methodist Church and the Barton Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She most recently attended the first United Methodist Church in Bellaire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son Earl Smith and three sisters, Ruth Gill, Wilma Cottrell and Dorothy Schmitt. Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, John Smith of Martins Ferry; her three children Nancy Phillips and her husband Woodie of Pleasantville, OH, Joyce LaMotte an her husband Andrew III of Bridgeport, and John Smith II and his wife Debbie of Hartville, OH; six grandchildren LaNette Krob (Kevin) of Bridgeport, Michael Phillips (Michele) of Pleasantville, OH, Andrew LaMotte IV (Angel) of Bellaire, Penny Wright (Mark) of Stowe, OH, Pam smith of Hartville, OH and Patty Crabtree (Bill) of Hartville, OH; nine great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, friends from the Shelby Apartments in Martins Ferry, and her beloved dog Honey. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 am with Rev. Henry Mooney officiating. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove.
