(Smith) Fowler
September 6, 1930 – August 18, 2022
Mary Ann (Smith) Fowler, 91, of Colerain, Ohio died at her home in Colerain, Ohio on August 18, 2022, surrounded by her family.
She was married to Robert J. Fowler, Jr., who has preceded her in death, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bridgeport, on January 9, 1954. The daughter of the late Leo B. Smith, Sr., and Mary (Campbell) Smith. She was born the oldest of seven children on September 6, 1930, in Bridgeport, Ohio.
Mrs. Fowler attended St. Joseph Academy, in Wheeling, WV., graduating in the Class of 1947. She was the secretary for Ruth Brant, Director of Nursing in Martins Ferry. Mrs. Fowler also worked many years at Kroger's as a Competition Price Checker and one of the first Food Sampling Demonstrators. Mary Ann was an entrepreneur who owned and operated, for many years, from her home a few businesses: Mary Ann's Cakes, Ceramic Shop and Home Crafts. She opened her home up to her family & friends enjoying the parties, social and the holidays.
Mary Ann was an active member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain.
Over the years, she served in many ministries such as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Visiting the Sick and organizational positions within the Catholic Church: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary for the local parishes & Deanery for the Catholic Women's Club (CWC). Mary Ann was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters as well as the Congregation of St. Joseph. She was also a Brownie & Girl Scout leader, and over the years, very active in many youth activities at the church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. (Bob) Fowler, Jr. who passed away on April 17, 2002; their infant daughter, Sheila Marie on October 30, 1955, and her precious fur babies Mitzi & Shasta. She is also preceded in death by her 3 brothers': William (Bill) Smith, James (Jim) Smith, Leo B. Smith, Jr., and her sister: Kathleen Joan (Kathy) Smith.
She is survived by her five children: Brenda Ann Fowler of Colerain, Ohio, Terence Leo Fowler and his Life Partner, Ramiro Sandoval of Cumming, GA, Sharon Marie (Fowler) Ballard and her husband Richard (Rick) of Wheeling, WV, Bruce E. Fowler, Sr. and his wife Terrie, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Robert J. Fowler, III and his wife Ann from Cape Coral, FL. Mrs. Fowler was also Foster Parent with her late husband to multiple other children.
She has 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Robert J. Fowler, IV (Rob) and his wife Melody, and their children; Robert V "Joey" and Katie of Fredericksburg, VA. Daniel (Dan) Fowler and his wife Erin, and their son Corbin Joseph of Cape Coral, FL. Bruce E. Fowler, Jr., and his wife Adrianne, and their children; Laycee, Bruce III (Bub), Gage and Adilee of Memphis, TN. Kelsey (Fowler) Molek, and her husband Bernard (Bernie) and their children; Wyatt, Waylon, Walker, and Wade from Uniontown, PA. Charles E. Ballard, III (Chazz) from Wheeling, WV.
She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Charles) Link of Bellaire, Ohio, and her youngest brother Donald (Don) Smith and his wife Debbie of Lake Alfred, FL., as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, her beloved church family, and many other family and friends. She loved all her fur babies: Mya, Maddie, Molly, Mandi, Macie, and Gibbs.
Finally, the family acknowledges and thank Mrs. Fowler's Care Takers: Tonya, Linda, Fran & Pam as well as WVU Medicine-Wheeling Hospital, Capital Home Health & Hospice.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Bridgeport, Ohio on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, from 3 -8pm, with Vigil service at 3:15 with Fr. Thomas Chillog officiating.
Funeral Liturgy: Holy Mass of the Resurrection: will be celebrated Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 11 am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain, Ohio with Fr. Thomas Chillog officiating.
Followed by interment at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Blaine, Ohio.
Mary Ann had requested Memorial Contributions be made to: Puppy Connection Rescue, Inc., 1400 South Main St., Washington, PA 15301 and or St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church Food Pantry.
