Mary Eunice Shepherd Taylor, 98, of Barnesville, Ohio, formerly of Xenia, Ohio, went home to with her Lord on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Park Health in St. Clairsville, Ohio. She was born July 23, 1916 in Morristown, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph Hooker Shepherd and Ethel Kirk Shepherd.
Mary was a graduate of Barnesville High School. She married Louis E. Taylor in January 1941, before his Air Force deployment into WWII. They settled in Xenia, Ohio. She was employed by Rikes in Dayton, Ohio, as buyer of the glove department and later as credit manager. She retired after 30 years from Federated Department Stores (now Macys).
She and Louis traveled extensively to all of the U.S. states and most of the world in their retirement. Mary stated that New Zealand was the most beautiful in all their travels.
Mary was a lifetime member of the Easter Star for 74 years. She volunteered for over 30 years as an American Red Cross Volunteer at Greene Memorial Hospital as a Patient Relations Representative, Information Desk Volunteer, and served on the Volunteer Advisory Board on GMH Partners Volunteer Group. She was awarded the prestigious Kenneth Beams Award for her service to Greene Memorial Hospital. The United Volunteer Service recognized and awarded Mary with the Maggie Award for service to her community. Mary was a faithful servant and member of Faith Community Methodist Church, Xenia, Ohio for over 60 years.
In 2005, she relocated from her home in Xenia, Ohio, back to Barnesville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Taylor; step-mother, Virginia Shepherd; six sisters, Ruth Wirth, Ethel Brainard, Peggy Phillips, Betty Whitacre, Joann Abrams, and Belva DeBolt; two brothers, Kirk Shepherd and Joe Shepherd.
She leaves a sister, Barb Shepherd of Morristown; sister-in-law, Sallie Shepherd of Marietta, Ohio; brother-in-law, Chuck DeBolt of Bethesda; special friend, Karen Church of Jamestown, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit, Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home & Crematory, 204 Main Street, Morristown, Ohio where the service will be conducted Thursday, 11 a.m. Reverend Gene Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Morristown. Eastern Star Weyer Chapter 515 service will be conducted Wednesday, 6:45 p.m.
