Matthew R. Hammerquist, 61, of N. 9th St., Martins Ferry, OH died Friday, Mar. 28, 2008 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV. He was born Nov. 14, 1946 in Chicago, IL a son of the late Elmer and Edna (Zierk) Hammerquist. He was an employee of the Rent-A-Center, Steubenville, OH, and also a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Lee Hammerquist. Surviving are his wife Sherie (Kirr) Hammerquist, five sons Steve (Rosa) Hammerquist of Chicago, IL, Brian (Karen) Hammerquist of Triadelphia, WV, Eric (Melinda) Hammerquist, Michael Hammerquist, and Scott (Fiancee Holly Gavarkavich) Hammerquist all of Martins Ferry, a daughter Amy Hammerquist of Martins Ferry, a brother Harold "Butch" (Wanda) Hammerquist of Chicago, and eleven grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday 12-3 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Monday, Mar. 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Philip Van Dam officiating.
