Matthew G. Schunn, Sr., 92, of Martins Ferry, OH, joined his late wife Eva E. (Altman) Schunn, Jan. 14, 2013. He was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Mathias and Anna (Tartler) Schunn. Matt retired from the Kroger Company. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #38 and the former Eagles all of Martins Ferry. Matt was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II where he served as an aerial gunner. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son Francis W. Schunn, an infant daughter and a brother Arthur W. Schunn. Surviving are his son, Matthew G. (Tisha) Schunn, Jr. of Martins Ferry, a brother Robert A. (Judy) Schunn of Miromar, FL, grandchildren; Matt (Bethany) Schunn and Kara (Zac) Shutler, Barry (Jennifer) Schunn and Aimee (Mike) Masters, great grandchildren; Leah and Luke Shutler, Jeremiah Schunn, Isabella Schunn, and Lillian, Lydia, and Leah Masters, and his cats "Mixie", "Pixie"and "Dixie". Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, where services will be held Jan. 18, 2013 at 10:30 am with Pastor Philip Van Dam officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Military honors will be presented by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
