Maxine Taflan of Bridgeport, Ohio passed away on April 22, 2023.                     .

She was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on June 7, 1920, the daughter of the late Bert and Ercie Baxter.  Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Simon in 2010 to whom she was married for 64 years, a sister Marceline and a brother Ronald.

Maxine graduated from Victory High School in 1938 and attended Broadus College in Clarksburg. She moved to Washington, D.C. during the Second World War where she worked for the Federal Tax Court. Maxine worked in various other occupations during her lifetime. She sold advertising for the Clarksburg Gazette, worked as a salesperson for Peoples Drug Stores in West Virginia, modeled fashions for Woodward and Lothrup in Washington, D.C., and worked as a secretary with the Westinghouse Corporation in Wheeling. For the majority of Maxine's career, she worked for the Wheeling Branch of the Environmental Protection Agency.  She retired in 1982. Maxine lived in a number of different locations throughout her life but her favorite location was Washington D.C. where she met and married Simon. Her greatest joy was raising her two sons and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maxine loved all holidays and did everything she could to make each one of them special for her family and friends. Many friends stopped by her house at Christmas time to marvel at her infamous white Christmas tree and enjoy some of the many Christmas cookies Maxine would bake. She always made sure that the Taflan house was a warm and welcome place for all family and friends who visited.

Maxine will be deeply missed by her sons, John and his wife Heidi of Lake George, New York, Glenn and his wife Kim of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren Nick and Matt of Westerville, Erika Heald and her husband Rob of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Anna of Lake George, New York; and two great grandchildren Theodore and Audrey Heald of Ellicott City.

Always an optimist with the most amazing positive outlook on life Maxine was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.  Her personal motto was always, "you are never fully dressed without a smile".

There will be no public visitation and the interment will be held at a later date at Union Cemetery St. Clairsville. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Rad Brookside assisting the family.
