Obituary

Dr. Michael Paul (Mike) Dziewatkoski, 53, passed away May 17, 2019 from natural causes while in Wisconsin for his profession.  He resided in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was born January 8, 1966 in Martins Ferry, OH, a son to the late Julius and MaryAnn (Faldowski) Dziewatkoski.

Mike is survived by his sisters and brothers:  Katherine Ann (Rafael) Chirinos of Houston TX,Anna Marie (Mark) Salvaterra of Moundsville WV, Patricia Sue (Brian) Bisbocci of Scott Depot WV, Julius "Jay" (Audrey) Dziewatkoski of Wintersville OH, Nicholas Allen (Sharon) Dziewatkoski of Circleville OH, and Theresa Ann (Mark) Buzek of Springboro OH; his nieces: Erica (Seth) Lacy, Julia (Victor) Pickett, Elizabeth Salvaterra, Diane Dziewatkoski, Renee Dziewatkoski, Maria Dziewatkoski, Rachel Dziewatkoski, and Mary Rose Buzek; his nephews: Jared Dziewatkoski and Matthew Buzek; and his grandnephews: Kaiden Lacy and Kaleb Lacy.Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike currently worked as a Technical Director and National Sales Manager for Eurofins SFAnalytical.  He was a key contributor for business and technical relationships with customers and industry on the topics of chemical testing, foreign material identification, analytical methods,and legal expert witness.  For over 25 years, his education and career would take Mike throughout the United States and internationally given his expertise in his field.  His education began at Ohio University in 1984, then continued at North Carolina State University where he earned his PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 1993. Mike began his life's work with a post-doctoral research assignment at the Ohio State University, then as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Western Michigan University in 1995.  In 2010, he earned a MBA at the University of Cincinnati, Carl H. Lindner College of Business.  He built his career and personal experiences through technical and managerial roles with companies such as Mettler-Toledo, YSI, Metrohm, and Eurofins, in multiple geographies.  He has 9 scientific publications in the field of analytical chemistry with an emphasis on inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Mike was avid about many hobbies during his lifetime.  He appreciated the art and effort for ethnic cooking, food preservation, and homebrewing. He was a firearm enthusiast who enjoyed collecting, hunting, and target shooting.  To his friends and colleagues, Mike D was known as 'Mic Drop' when he embraced his talent in Karaoke.  He was a runner who trained and routinely participated in 5K/10K races. Recently, he returned to his love of riding motorcycles.  And as always through the years, Mike was a passionate fan of Pittsburgh Steelers football and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.

Friends will be received Monday, May 27th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 154 Second St., Dillonvale, OH.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 28th at 10am at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Dillonvale with Monsignor John Kolesar serving as celebrant.  Interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

To honor Mike, Eurofins is planning a memorial 5K run during the 2019 International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) tradeshow in July in Louisville, KY.  Please contact the family for information.

The family is asking, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions can be made in Mike's name to the American Heart Association.
