Mike J. Markus, Sr. Mike J. Markus, Sr., 80, of Pleasant Grove, OH died Wed., Feb. 5, 2003 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born Feb. 16, 1922 in Coshocton, OH a son of the late Mike and Elizabeth (Kosa) Markus. He was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, a life member of Bellaire D.A.V. #117, and the Colerain V.F.W. Post # 8848. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army of WWII having received two Purple Hearts, and a Bronze Star, while in action and as a POW. Surviving are his wife Ruth Ann (Hoge) Markus, a son Mike Markus and his wife Suzan of Pleasant Grove, two daughters Judie Thomas of Martins Ferry and Debbie Dusch of Grove City, OH, two brothers Roy and Julius Markus both of Martins Ferry, six grandchildren Jeff Starkey of Pleasant Grove, Rick Starkey of Martins Ferry, Michelle Markus of Morristown, Stephanie Markus of Worthington, Michael John Markus, III of Pleasant Grove and Jessie Dusch of Grove City, and four great grandchildren Jordan, Kody, Roman and Tia Starkey. Friends will be received Fri. 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held on Sat., Feb 8, 2003 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Tami Shoup and Pastor John Cook officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with full military graveside honors by the Belmont County Council of V.F.W. Colerain VFW will hold services Fri. at 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
