Obituary

Mildred "Bette" (Hart) Rees, age 92, of Martins Ferry, OH, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Parkcliffe Community, in Toledo, OH. Bette was born on August 19, 1917, in Bellaire, OH, the daughter of the late Delbert and Nora (Krebs) Hart, and was a 1935 graduate of Shadyside High School. On January 17, 1942, she married Arthur E. Rees, who preceded her in death. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a secretary at Ohio Power, then as secretary to the Superintendent of Shadyside Schools. Bette was a 73 year member, first of the Bellaire Chapter, then the Shadyside Chapter #581, Order of Eastern Star. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry, OH, for over 67 years, being active both in the choir, and also the Ministry of Comfort. Along with her husband, Arthur, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Robert Hart, of Shadyside, OH, and Edwin Hart, of St. Clairsville, OH. Bette is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Douglas) Haag, of Toledo, and a son Jack Rees, of Martins Ferry. She is also survived by four grandsons, Scott Haag, Columbus, OH, Brian (BeLinda) Haag, M.D., Chicago, Ill., Jeffrey Rees, Steubenville, OH, Gregory Rees, Wheeling, W.Va., two great grandchildren, Alex and Autumn Rees, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are being handled by Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, with visitation from 5:30-8:30 pm, on Thursday, August 26. Services will be at 11am, Friday, August 27, 2010, with Rev. David Stammerjohn officiating. Internment at Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3450 West Central Ave., Suite 230, Toledo, OH 43606, Parkcliffe Communities, 4226 Parkcliffe Ln., Toledo, O., 43615, First Presbyterian Church, 4th and Walnut Sts., Martins Ferry, OH, 43935, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
