Mildred M. (Sockman) Hails Schmidt, 87, of Buckeye Run, Martins Ferry, OH died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. She was born Mar. 12, 1922 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Furbay) Sockman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Bernard W. Hails, her second husband Edward F. Schmidt, three brothers Thomas, Francis and James Sockman, and one great grandson Paul Rice, III. Surviving are one son George Hails of St. Clairsville, OH, two daughters Mary Ann (Paul) Rice of Shadyside, OH, and Gerrie Ledger of Martins Ferry, two sisters Geraldine Paul, and Hazel Morrison both of Martins Ferry, and a brother William Sockman of Martins Ferry, seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry where services will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 11:00 am with Minister Rod Kasler officiating.
