Mont Christy Hollingsworth, 68, recently of Sunbury, Ohio, died Sunday November 27, 2016 at Kobacker House in Columbus from complications of a glioblastoma multiform stage 4, brain cancer. He was born in Casper, Wyoming on April 12, 1948 to the late Manring Hollingsworth and the late Marcelyn Christy Hollingsworth Miller Shannon. Also preceding Mont in death was his step-father Bernard Miller.
Mont was a graduate of Union Local High School, class of 1966 where he was active in band, Latin club, drama, a class officer, and yearbook staffer. After high school, Mont attended OSU his freshman year before transferring to Mount Union College where he graduated with a B.S. in history. Mont decided to further his education and returned to OSU in the fall of 1970. When his father was killed in October, Mont came back home to help his mother around the farm. Mont substitute taught at various districts in Eastern Ohio and took classes at the OU branch telling people he would rather clean out the barn than teach. (He did however teach at Ohio Wesleyan and then at OU in Athens later in life.)
In the fall of 1971, Mont enrolled at Kent State University where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Accounting in 1973. He then did so well on the CPA exam that he received a job offer from a Big 8 accounting firm; Haskins and Sells, in Cleveland. Mont spent many long, grueling hours honing his profession. In 1974, Mont married Margaret Gardner and they took up residence in Bedford, Ohio. In 1986, Mont and Margaret welcomed a son, Theodore James (Holly) and moved to Solon Ohio where they lived until June 2016.
Surviving Mont are his wife and son of Columbus, his brothers Michael (Maureen) Miller of Athens Ohio, John (Elizabeth) Hollingsworth of Pickerington Ohio, Bruce (Cindy) Miller of Bethesda, Ohio, and Christopher (Renae) Miller of New Concord, Ohio. Also, his sisters Eileen (Jerry) Roberts of Gahanna, Ohio, Margaret (Craig) Maul of Hilliard, Ohio, Marcy (Tim) Wanner of Lancaster, Ohio, Mary Susan Reid of Maui, Hawaii, and sister-in-law Mary Castiglione of Aurora, Ohio. Mont had 16 nephews and nieces and many more great nephews and nieces.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from noon to 4 PM at Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 322 North Main Street, Bethesda Ohio. Casual dress please. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4 PM led by Dr. Kenneth Chalker, a friend and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity brother.
Mont taught school, helped others, loved nature, animals, and his family. Always wanting to help or provide care, Mont would want contributions in his name be sent to: Kobacker House, Ohio Health Hospice, or The James Cancer Center, in lieu of flowers.
