Obituary

Monsignor John Cymbor, a retired priest of the presbyterate of the Diocese of Steubenville, died Saturday, March 21, 2015. He was born March 24, 1926 in Lansing, Ohio, a son of the late John F. and Dorothy (Ackerman) Cymbor. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 1950 by the late Bishop John King Mussio at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst. His assignments during his active ministry included assistant at Holy Name Cathedral Steubenville; administrator at the former Annunciation Church, Mingo Junction; assistant at the former St. Stanislaus Church, Steubenville. He was on the staff at Catholic Central High School Steubenville, and the former St. John Vianney Seminary, Bloomingdale. He served as pastor of the former St. Theresa Church, Piney Fork and administrator of St. Matthias Mission, Freeport. At the time of his retirement in July 2004, Monsignor served as pastor of St. Paul's Parish in Flushing for 19 years. Monsignor Cymbor served in a number of ministries for the Diocese of Steubenville, including Diocesan Master of Ceremonies, Pro-Synodal Judge and Examiner, the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, the Senate of Priests, the Priests' Personnel Board, and Facilitator of the Ministry to Priests Program, and Director of the Continuing Education of Priests. He was Chaplain for the Mother of God Deanery CWC and served as Diocesan CWC Moderator. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Blanche Sadowski, and three brothers Edward, Zigmond, and Joseph Cymbor. Monsignor is survived by two sisters Ann Fulks of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Mary Walker of Garfield Heights, Ohio, also several nieces and nephews. The body will be waked at his home parish of St. Joseph, Wolfhurst from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. A Vigil Service will be prayed Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's with the Most Rev. Jeffrey Monforton, D.D. as the Presider. Burial will be St. Anthony Cemetery, Blaine. Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, is in charge of arrangements.
