Obituary

On Mon., May 24, 2004, our mother, Muriel C. Jones, 78, went to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully with her family present, at the home of her daughter, under the care of Valley Hospice. Muriel was born Aug. 2, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late Marlin and Mabel Dorney Altemus. She was a graduate of McKeesport High School. Muriel worked for many years in retail and was a retired associate of J.C. Penney. She was employed most recently as a Senior Aide in various capacities at Family Service from 1988 until her illness in August, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband William L. Jones in 1974, a son Thomas B. Jones in 1992, and five brothers and four sisters. Our mother was a person whose needs were few, who enjoyed the simple things in life, and who showed by example a strong work ethic. She demonstrated the importance of being active in her senior years and worked hard all her life. She is survived by a family whom she loved dearly: a daughter, Marlene (Dr. Robert) Ingram of Wheeling; two sons William R. "Randy" (Lynda) Jones of Westerville, OH; and Robert (Joyce) Jones of Cordova, TN; five grandchildren; Kelly (Elkin) Anaya of Pearland, TX: Leslie (Doug) Hess of Gahanna, OH; Guy Jones of Bridgeport, OH; Rob and Stephanie Jones of Cordova, TN; four great-grandchildren: Adrienne Anaya; Lauren, Justin and Nicholas Hess; a sister and two brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews and their families. Friends will be received Thurs., May 27, 2004 from 11 AM until time of services at 2:00 PM with Rev. William O. Webster officiating at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Valley Hospice, 98-B East Cove Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003 or the M. J. Viola Senior Center, 51-11th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
