Nick Provezis, 88, of Palmetto, FL, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, died at his residence March 28, 2015. He was born March 7, 1927 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Steve and Katherine (Zachares) Provezis. Nick retired after 25 years of service from the Martins Ferry Police Department. He was the former owner/operator of Nicky's Garden Center of Martins Ferry. Nick was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Life Giving Fountain, American Legion Post #38 and F.O. P. Lodge #78 all of Martins Ferry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Tom Nick Provezis and brothers; Gus and Jack Provezis. Surviving are his wife, Eva P. (Orend) Provezis, his daughter, Kay Ann (Bruce) Bennington of Bradenton, FL, sister, Ann Karpathakis of Waxhaw, NC, grandchildren; Tomma Wells, Vance (Sharon) Rine, Tara Carpenter, Aimee Rine, Staci (Jad Smith) Provezis, Nickol (Corey) Guadino and Tom Provezis, eleven great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Thursday 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Life Giving Fountain with Fr. Michael Ziebarth officiating. Burial follows at Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Martins Ferry Police Dept. will hold services Thursday at 6 pm in the funeral home followed by Trisagion Prayer Services. Military honors will be conducted Friday at 12:00pm at the funeral home by the Belmont County Council of American Legion.
