Park Roland Whitacre, passed away, August 23, 2011, in Barnesville, Ohio after a long and fruitful life. He was born in 1919 in Barnesville, son of the late Park and Florence McCort Whitacre.
Roland was married to the former Nina Edith King, also of Barnesville, for nearly 60 years. Roland and Nina lived in the Washington, DC area from 1940, until they returned to Barnesville in 1993.
Roland served in the US Navy, during W W II and had a 35 year career with the US Postal Service. He was an avid golfer and played until he was 90. He was an active member of the Church of the Assumption, an eager volunteer for bingo, meals on wheels, and other charitable organizations throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Roland is preceded in death by his wife, Nina in 2000; and son, Robert in 2001.
He is survived by his children, Sherrol Maratta, Susan Lynch, Diane Whitacre, Greg Whitacre, and Kathy Cheatham; brother, Robert Whitacre of Dayton, Ohio; and love by three generations of grandchildren.
At Roland's request, a gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life, will be held at a later date.
