Obituary

Paul "Fred" Fischer of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Acuity Specialty Hospital at Belmont. He was born December 5, 1928 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Emil and Marie (Pelkey) Fischer. Fred was a retired Thoroughbred horse trainer, who campaigned horses primarily in Ohio and West Virginia, and maintained a farm in Mt. Pleasant. He owned his first racehorse, Darting Star, in 1944 and stayed active in the racing business through memberships in the Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders' Association and Ohio HBPA . He was also a veteran of the US Army. Fred is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann (Harvey) Fischer; a daughter, Michele Fischer of Louisville, Kentucky; two nieces, Marnie Buchanan and Nancy Van Curan; and two nephews, Gary and Alan Fischer. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by a brother, Ray Fischer and a sister, Mildred Jewett. Members of the family will receive friends Thursday from noon through the memorial service that begins at 1:30pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 154 Second Street, Dillonvale, Ohio.
