Obituary

Paul E. Pickens, 98, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Liza's Place, Valley Hospice South, Wheeling, WV. He was born October 16, 1919 in his family home on Scotch Ridge, son of the late Elmer and Bessie (Morgan) Pickens.
Paul was a retired farmer who lovingly tended the land which has been in the Pickens family for over two hundred years. He was a lifetime member of Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, WWII.
Paul was the beloved husband of Mary Luella (Murdock) Pickens for nearly 71 years and loving father of Kenneth (Mary) Pickens, Dean (Marsha) Pickens, Bruce Pickens and Jean (David) Merriman.
In addition he is survived by grandchildren; Eliza, Ian, Andrea, Michael, Anna, Mike and Josie and several great grandchildren.
He was at the center of a large family of near and distant relatives, friends and neighbors, all of whom cherished him. Paul's wisdom and humor will be sadly missed by so many. His unwavering faith in God gave him strength in this life and belief that in the next he will be reunited in heaven with his parents, brothers and sister.
Friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating. Burial follows in Alexander Family Cemetery Association Cemetery, Scotch Ridge.
