Ray M. Gates, 82, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at his home.  Born December 17, 1934 in Beallsville Ohio, he was the son of the late Henry Gates and Georgia Henthorn Gates. He was a retired machinist.  He enjoyed sailing and the never ending search for the next adventure it brought.  He loved horses for their beauty unsurpassed, strength immeasurable, and grace unlike any other, yet remain humble enough to carry a man on their back. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby. Ray is survived by his brother, Arlin Gates of Michigan; special cousin and care giver, Frank Roy; and nephew, Jerry Taylor. In keeping with the wishes of Ray, there will be no visitation or service.  Interment will be private and take place at the convenience of his family.
