Raymond W. "Pappy Ray" Lortz, 88, of Martins Ferry, OH died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV. He was born July 11, 1927 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Fred E. and Louise M. (Hallett) Lortz. Ray retired from Western Electric, A T & T and Lucent Technologies and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry where he was a former deacon, trustee and greeter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor J. (Evans) Lortz, his son, Peter Edward Lortz and brothers, Frank, Fred and Ralph Lortz. Surviving are his daughter, Diane M. (Daniel) Leonard of Powhatan Point, OH, a son, Thomas R. (Donna) Lortz of Eunice, LA, grandchildren, Alexandra D. "Lexie" (William) Hess, Arianne (Justin Goneau) Leonard and Cheyenne R. Lortz and a great grandchild Evelynn Rae Hess. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Stammerjohn officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Military honors will be presented at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home by Belmont Co.
