Regina C. Pettit, 101, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, born on June 28, 1913 in Martins Ferry, died on Oct. 24, 2014 at Liza's Place. She and the late Forrest E. Pettit are now reunited. Regina was the oldest of 11 and the last surviving child of the late William and Gertrude (Dobbins) Neal. To fill the void she has left her children: Regina (Richard) Reichley, St. Clairsville, OH, Dale (Ana) Pettit, San Jose, Costa Rica, Joan (George) McCaffrey, Dayton, OH, and Janet (Michael) Poluga, Martins Ferry, OH. In addition she leaves grandchildren: Susan, Rick, Bob, Joe, Jim, Michael, Steven, Alison and Alicia. Also filling her legacy are great grandchildren: Diane, Michael, Russell, Libby, Elise, Rachel, Dylan, Clay, Declan, Tanner and Logan. Coming from very humble beginnings on Cemetery Rd. in Martins Ferry, and unable to finish her schooling, she fulfilled her dream of education by working for 20 years at Wheeling Jesuit University Library. She was able to travel far and wide visiting numerous places including her ancestral home, Ireland, along with the Holy Land and the Vatican. Always active with various groups, she enjoyed her years in the League of Women Voters and was especially proud to be a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a charter member of St. Mary's Catholic Women's Club both of Martins Ferry. Please help all of us celebrate her long life Monday from 4-7 pm at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Revs. Tom Marut and Tom Magary officiating. Entombment follows in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, Martins Ferry. Wake services will be held Monday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
