Richard T. ""Dick"" Burns, 81, of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday October 20, 2009 joining his loving wife ""Elly"" and son Jim. Dick was born November 2nd, 1927 in Pittsburgh Pa., son of the late James Burns and Mary Burns O'Brien. He was a retired Civil Servant with the United Postal Service Wheeling W.V.; he was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Eagles #995 both of Bridgeport, and a veteran in W.W.II in the U.S. Navy. He loved talking with people, discussing sports, and had a soft heart for all animals. With his grandchildren, he taught them how to spell Punxsutawney, discussed politics, sports, and all about California. His phone calls to his children and grandchildren, our family get togethers, and playing cards will be forever missed. His children and grandchildren were his pride as he always offered them words of wisdom. Pa's positive spirit will live on in everyone's hearts as we remember him telling us ""Be Good to Yourself."" In addition to his parents and son Jim, Dick was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (Brumback) Burns; a brother Danny; and a sister Carole Cook. Surviving is a son Richard M. Burns (Dana) of Ambridge, Pa., four daughters Denice Baker of Wheeling, Barbara Absalom (Chuck) of Martins Ferry, Colleen Matkovich (Jack) of St. Clairsville, and Connie Tamburin of Bridgeport, one Brother Jim of Pittsburgh Pa., eight grandchildren Kim Blazer, Erica Tamburin Jacklin, Jason, Jamie Matkovich, Candace, Blaise, and Lance Burns, one Great Granddaughter Ryah Rotilio. Members of the family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Msgr. Thomas C. Petronek officiating. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Wheeling. Wake service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Full military services will be held at the funeral home by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W.
