Johnston Sr.

Richard V. Johnston Sr, 85 of Belmont, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at his home. He was born April 5, 1937 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The son of the late Vincent V. Johnston and Hazel Tiddle Fry.
Dick was a well know body man working at various body shops throughout the valley before retiring from Bob's Auto Body in East Richland. Dick was a Harley guy who loved anything Ford and he was a staunch Donald Trump supporter, and he would tell you about it. Sometimes without even being asked! He also enjoyed restoring old cars with his good friend Jeff Lazenby. He was very good at what he did.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Ellen Masters West.
Dick is survived by the woman who loved him with all she had, Marlene West Johnston. They were married for 66 years. Their children: Richard V. Johnston Jr of Belmont, Ohio, Jay V. (Marcie) Johnston of Batavia, Ohio, Elaine (Doug) Schafer of Belmont, Ohio and Tammy (Andy) Duill of Delaware, Ohio. Grandchildren: Richard V. (Christine) Johnston III, Stacy Johnston, Jessica (James) Lawless, Jay V. Johnston Jr, Melissa Johnston, Lacy (Derek) Gallagher, Alex (Jessica) Schafer, Lindsay Schafer, Carly (Joe) Stephen and Madison Schafer. They have 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A sister-law- Darlene (Kent) Craver of Sidney, Ohio and a sister LaJ Bonstead of Dublin, Ohio as well as nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, January 21st with a service to follow at noon at the Wilson Funeral Home, Bethesda Chapel, 322 N. Main St, Bethesda, Ohio 43719.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
