Obituary

Richard T. "Dick" Letzelter, 100, of Broadway St., Martins Ferry, OH died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born May 11, 1912 in Woodsfield, OH a son of the late Michael W. and Mary Elizabeth (Poulton) Letzelter. He operated his business as a plumbing contractor in Martins Ferry for many years. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry where he served as a long time usher. He also was a member of the Lions Club, Elks, American Legion, and Cadiz Country Club where he was a avid golfer and club golf champion. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, WW II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Anna V. (Hinton) Letzelter, two brothers Col. Cyril J. Letzelter and Michael B. Letzelter. Surviving are his sister Betty J. Hamm of Martins Ferry, two nephews Cyril J. (Faith) Letzelter of Ft. Collins, CO and Rev. Thomas F. Hamm of Gallipolis, OH, four nieces Mary Elizabeth Grady of Mattoon, IL, Lucille Ann Smith of West Glover, VT, Gretchen Corban and Laura Lee Letzelter both of Columbus, OH, a special cousin Barbara (Jerry) Kulpa, Wheeling, WV. Friends will be received Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Fr. Tom Marut and Fr. Thomas Hamm officiating. Burial follows in Weeks Cemetery, Bridgeport, OH. Rosary devotions will be recited Sunday at 3:00 pm followed by Wake service at 8:00 pm both at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 20 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, OH. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
