Rita L. Askew, 92, formerly of S. 5th St., Martins Ferry, OH died, Dec. 25, 2009, at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheeling, WV. She was born May 27, 1917 in Athens, PA the daughter of the late Ned L. and Bessie (DeVoe) Askew. She retired as a Registered Nurse from the Ohio Valley Medical Center where she was the Director of Nursing. Rita was also retired as a consultant for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. Rita was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry where she served as an Elder and Trustee. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy WWII. She is survived by her Godchild Lesley Kettle of Killin, Scotland. Family and friends will be received Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, 11 am until time of services at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH Burial at Milton Cemetery, Milton, PA.
