Robert L. Plotz, 90, of Martins Ferry, OH died Wednesday, March 27, 2019. He was born December 16, 1928 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth M. (Fingerhut) Plotz.

Bob retired in 1991 as Superintendent/ Metallurgist from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel

His athletic achievements were numerous. In his Senior year playing for the Martins Ferry Purple Rider Football Team, he was Co-Captain with Ralph Short. While on an academic scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh, he was a star football lineman who was named All American, Honorable Mention. After graduation, Bob was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. A former Martins Ferry Booster's Club president, he helped to initiate the 7th grade football program. His athletic prowess led to his induction into the Martins Ferry High School and OVAC Athletic Halls of Fame. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War.

A former 3rd Ward City Councilman, he was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Martins Ferry.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah L. (McAndrew) Plotz.

Surviving are his sons; Robert C. "Rob" Plotz of New York City, NY and J. Richard "Rick" (Kelli) Plotz of Geneva, IL and grandchildren; Alexandra Marie Plotz, Eric Chase Plotz and Katherine Ann Plotz.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of EORH rehabilitation center and ICU for their superb care and the kindness they showed Bob in his stay there.

Family and friends will be received Friday from 2–4 pm and 6-8 pm at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
