Robert Russell Wood, 79, of Martins Ferry passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 28, 1946, in Martins Ferry, the son of the late James and Pauline (Huff) Wood.
Bob was a retired educator after 35 years of teaching for the Martins Ferry School District as a science teacher. Bob was known for his dedication and steady presence towards his students. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, where he developed a strong sense of duty and service. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Martins Ferry. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Bob will be remembered for his warm heart; quiet strength and the simple ways he made his family and students feel cared for.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Judy (Talasis) Wood, children, Eric (Nancy) Wood of Independence, KY, Bob (Kristin) Wood of Columbus, Alyssa Wood of Martins Ferry, grandchildren, A.J. (Makayla) Wood, Bethany Wood and great-granddaughter, Estella Wood, and his twin brother, James Wood.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 3-7pm at the Wilson Funeral Home – Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 20 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, with Fr. Thomas Marut officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Ferryview Rd.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to “Loved Stray T” Martins Ferry, 70470 Grove Lane, Martins Ferry, OH 43935, Non-Profit Cat Rescue.
