Roger A. Best, 69, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV. He was born May 27, 1939 in Malta Twp, OH a son of the late Harry and Garnett (Allen) Best. He was a retired Math Teacher, Guidance Counselor and Coach for the Martins Ferry City School District. Roger was President of the Martins Ferry Board of Education, a member of Belmont-Harrison Career Center Board of Education, Grace Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry, and the Bridgeport Foresters. Surviving are two sons Scott Best and his wife Brooke Mitchell of St. Davids, PA, and Brian Best and his wife Erin of Rayland, OH, a sister Molly Anderson of Zanesville, OH, two grandchildren Cameron and Lindsey Best, his good friend and former wife Bonnie (Whalen) Best, and his beloved dogs Mugsy, Murphy and Missy. Roger lived for his grandchildren and was an avid Purple Rider and Ohio State sports fan. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH, Wednesday 6-9 pm and Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 from 11-1 pm. Services will be held at 2:00 pm at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 400 Hanover St., Martins Ferry with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Martins Ferry Athletic Growth Fund, 5001 Ayers-Limestone Rd., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
