Roger Ernest Levi, 75, of Martins Ferry, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 6, 1947, a son of the late Roger and Elizabeth (Bazan) Levi Sr. Roger was Catholic by faith and served his country in the U.S. Army. He received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University, and a master's in Administration and Guidance from the University of Dayton. He retired from Buckeye Local School District after 31 years of service, where he also served as the President of the Teachers Union. Roger was a registered High School Basketball Official for 50 years in both Ohio and West Virginia. He was elected to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame in 2008. He officiated State Championship basketball games for both boys and girls in both Ohio and West Virginia. Roger also held offices as President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Ohio Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials. He was a member of the Indian Club of Tiltonsville, where he served as Secretary, also the Short Creek Sportsmen's Club and was a life member of the NRA. Roger loved hunting, especially rabbit hunting with his beagles and sons, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan (Vrotsos) Levi; two sons, Vincent Levi (Meredith Hahn) and Nicholas Levi; a brother, Allan (Cindy) Levi; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am in the Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
