Obituary

Roland R. Habig, 83, of Senecaville, OH, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, OH. He was born April 8, 1926 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Lawrence and Syvilla M. (Rose) Habig. He was a retired truck driver for the Martins Ferry Plant of the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. Roland was a lifetime member of Cambridge Post #2901, V.F.W. and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James Habig and a sister Syvilla Habig. Surviving are his wife Geneva V. "Jenny" (Smith) Habig, two sons Ron (Sally) Habig of St. Clairsville, OH and Gary A. (Sharon) Habig of Belmont, OH, two daughters, Debi Palmer of Shadyside, OH and Shari (Bruce) Bowen of Senecaville, OH, six brothers Charles K. (Callista) Habig of Woodsfield, OH, Lawrence (Marlene) Habig of Shadyside, OH, Richard (Rita) Habig of Piedmont, OH, Robert Habig of Piedmont, OH, William (Jackie) Habig of Clarington, OH, Thomas (Pam) Habig of St. Clairsville, OH and six sisters, Alma Habig of Martins Ferry, Gertrude (Fred) O'Conner of Martins Ferry, OH, Emma and Anna Billingsley both of Rayland, OH, Nancy Yoder of Martins Ferry, Mary Jeffries of New Philadelphia, OH and seven grandchildren, Ronnie and Brian Habig, Steve and Jenna Palmer, Jennifer Habig, Shayla and Breana Bowen and three great grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held, Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Minister Rod Kasler officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Military honors will be presented by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W. prior to services at the funeral home.
