Ronald Joseph
Turek
September 19, 1948 – November 30, 2021
Ronald "Ron" Joseph Turek, 73, gained his wings with family by his side on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. Born on September 19, 1948 in Wheeling, WV, Ron grew up in Bridgeport, OH with his parents, the late Joseph and Anna Mae Turek. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1966 where he played football and was also on the wrestling team.
After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served for over 21 years across the U.S. as well as time in Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sergeant at Langley Air Force Base, VA.
Early in his military career, he returned home to Ohio to visit family and friends and that's where he met the love of his life, Marsha, and they were married on June 12, 1971. For over 50 years, they shared a remarkable love and just celebrated their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows in front of family and friends.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Marsha; three sons, Joe (Amber), Tim (Jennifer) and Steve (Gungaa); two grandchildren, Katlyn (Austin – Fiancé) and Ashleigh; one brother, Nik (Dan), one sister, Jo Ann Connor (Mark); niece, Jessica, nephew, Mickeal (Ryan); numerous other family members; a special family friend, Heather Patterson; his devoted dog (Gabe) and cat (Snowflake). Family was essential to Ron and as a loving husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend, he was there for everyone.
Ron was a faithful Christian and member of the First Church of God in Newport News where he served on the church board as the Treasurer and recently ran the sound boards.
All who knew Ron knew he liked to make people laugh but would be an ear for anyone to talk to or shoulder to cry on. He was quite adept at fixing things the old-fashioned way by getting his hands dirty and figuring it out. Ron also loved his Raiders and was as true a fan as there ever could be.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Riverside who were there for Ron's care.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5pm to 7pm on December 10th at Wilson Funeral Home in Bridgeport, OH then a service at 11am (visitation begins at 10am) on December 11th at Meadowbrook Church of God in Rayland, OH.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Virginia in early 2022 with details to come.
