Ruth Ann (Hoge) Markus, 82, of Pleasant Grove, OH died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Long Term Care, Martins Ferry, OH. She was born March 30, 1927 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Bertrum Hoge and Mary (Mills) Hoge Cooper. Ruth was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the American Legion Women's Bowling League for 48 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Mike J. Markus, Sr., a brother John Hoge and three sisters Dorothy Cook, Margaret Albrecht, and Evelyn May Harmon. Surviving are a son Mike (Suzan) Markus, Jr., of Pleasant Grove, two daughters Judie Thomas of Martins Ferry, and Debbie Markus of Grove City,OH, two sisters Marian Koller and Doris Jean (Ed) Watkins both of Martins Ferry, and six grandchildren, Jeff Starkey of Pleasant Grove, Rick Starkey of Martins Ferry, Michelle Anderson of St. Clairsville, OH, Stephanie Masterson of Grove City, OH, Michael John Markus, III of Bridgeport, OH, and Jessie Knauff of Grove City, and ten great grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at 10:00 am with Pastors Yu Bohyun and John Cook officiating.
