Obituary

Ruth J. (Runyon) Smith, 89, of St. Clairsville, OH, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2011 at Forest Hills Retirement Center, St. Clairsville. She was born May 9, 1921 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Thomas Grier and Ethel Mae (Donley) Runyon. She was a member of: First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry having served on the Session, Gamma Chapter Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Belmont Hill Country Club, and Wheeling Dental Auxiliary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Clifford E. Smith, DDS, son Robert Scott Smith, and her sister Jane Fulton. Surviving are her son C. Thomas (Cindy) Smith of N. Canton, OH, two daughters Grier (Bill) Warfield, of Parkersburg, WV, and Sandra Mori of Falls Church, VA., nine grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mark) Hovanec, David (Amy) Neff, Stephanie (Mike) Brown, Scott (Nicole) Smith, Aaron Smith, Erica (Seth) Thompson, Anne (Allan) Kerr, Jessica (Brent) Waldman, and Kristin (Bob) Galmarini, and 16 great grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence and Rev. David Stammerjohn officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Deacons of the church will hold services at 7:00 pm followed by Sorority services at 7:15 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 400 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
