Ruthann Smith
Anderson
July 4, 1957 – March 20, 2022
Ruthann Smith Anderson was born on July 4th, a "firecracker baby", to Rev. Lloyd and Sally Smith in Trenton, New Jersey, where Lloyd was a pastor at the time. After relocating several times in her youth, the family settled in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio.
Ruthann studied music at West Liberty University before receiving her bachelor's degree from Ohio University and her master's from the University of Dayton. After working as a mental health counselor for many years, she went back to school and received her PhD from Ohio University. She was a professor and director of the Counseling and Human Development program at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. She was "Dr. Mom" to her students as well as a dear friend and colleague. Her light touched so many and carries on through those that she taught and inspired.
One of her greatest passions in life was music. She was a songwriter, guitarist, pianist, choir director, and had a beautiful voice. She shared her faith through her musical gifts with several local churches while a part of the group "Leap of Faith". In her free time, she loved to read, paint, needlepoint and work in her "English garden" beside her house. But most of all, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Ruthann is survived by her husband of 33 years, Rick Anderson, brothers David (Denise) Smith and Mark (LeAnn) Smith and their families; her children Elizabeth (Lawrence) Mack and Michael (Erin) Anderson, and her grandchildren Camren, Aubrey, Elewyn, and Lochlan.
Ruthann passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on March 20th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Sally and Rev. Lloyd Smith.
