Obituary

Sarah Jane Sindeldecker (Huonker) Greenlee, 87, resident of Long Term Care of East Ohio Regional Hospital, former resident of Wayne Hays Towers, died Monday, August 30, 2010 with her granddaughter Lisa Jane Hickman of Mobile, AL by her side, holding her hand. She died on what would have been her 69th anniversary with the love of her life, her first husband SSgt. Ralph Sindeldecker who was killed in WWII six days before their daughter was born. Born on November 17, 1922 in Bridgeport; she was the last surviving child of the late Matthias and Mary Bertha Husselbee Huonker. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, George R. Greenlee; her devoted in-laws Loyd and Mary Ada Sindeldecker; a beloved brother, Ozzie Huonker and six sisters, Jean Bluthardt, Mary Kathryn Filcaske, and Olga, Clara and Juanita Huonker and Bess Tuttle. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1940 as the 5th in her class of 163 students; the only one of her siblings to graduate. A member of First Christian Church of Martins Ferry, she also attended services each week at Wayne Hays Towers regardless of the denomination being celebrated. She was a former employee of Florence Mines in Glen Robbins and Blaw Knox in Wheeling, WV. She was a life-time member of Weight Watchers, a member of the Wayne Hays Tower Club and Breakfast Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the fellowship of her friends but her passion was her grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter Ada Jane (John) Maderia of Mobile, AL; granddaughter Lisa Jane (David) Hickman of Mobile, AL, grandson Scott Maderia of Panama City Beach, FL; two great-granddaughters Riley Jane, Regan Scott and great grandson Rusty Hickman all of Mobile, AL. She also leaves a devoted sister-in-law Joan Huonker of Bridgeport, life-long friends Helen Wakulchik of Rayland and Rosella Winzenreid of Warnock; and caregivers Brenda Zoladz, Ruthy Stan and Betty Singleton. The family would like to thank the staff of Long Term Care. A special thanks for the love and compassion provided by nurses Beth, Nancy, Jane and Stacey and aide Dessa Friends will be received on Thursday, September 2nd, from 12 noon to 8 pm. and Friday, September 3rd from 12 noon until the service at 2 pm. at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut Street, Martins Ferry, with the Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately following at Hopewell Cemetery in Rayland.
