It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Allen Gary, 69, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio (formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio). Scott passed away on June 6, 2026, while vacationing in Destin, Florida. He was born on May 5, 1957, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late Orval and Dorothy (Kaska) Gary.
In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Orval “Butch” Gary and by his beloved daughter, Jessica Martin.
Scott is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jody (Foldie) Gary; his three sons, Jarrett (Natalie) Gary, CJ (Kendall) Gary, and Gabe Gary; his cherished grandchildren, Colleen, Norah, Jack, Wes, Dominic, and EmmaClaire; his sisters, Linda (Gary) Hull and Cindy Pié; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Scott dedicated 30 years of service to the State of Ohio. He retired from the Ohio Department of Development, where he led homelessness initiatives and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. This passion for serving others extended beyond his career as he devoted much time to faithfully serving at The Refuge, where the Lord used him to impact countless men.
Scott lived a life dedicated to the Lord, and his faith was woven into everything he did. He loved every person he met with Christ-like compassion and grace. Scott understood the call to intentionally show the love of Jesus to others by sacrificially serving, forgiving, and helping anyone he could. Even after a stroke took away his ability to speak clearly, he continued to serve the Lord and others faithfully.
Scott was a constant presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was the anchor of his family- a man who chose forgiveness over grudges and grace over resentment. His greatest joy was his family. He loved supporting their activities and adventures, and he especially enjoyed traveling across the country, particularly to the western United States. Scott was also a fan of classic television shows, movies, musicals, and gospel music. He loved cooking for his family and friends and became well known for baking and personally delivering his famous pumpkin bread.
Family and friends will be received at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Bridgeport, Ohio 43912, on Sunday, June 14 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, and Monday, June 15 from 10:00am till time of funeral service at 11am, officiated by Tom Myers. Interment at Linwood Cemetery in Blaine, Ohio, will take place at a later date.
