Sherry Christine Merckle Gray 56 of Bridgeport formally of Wheeling died Thursday March 10, 2011 at her home. She was born January 22, 1955 in Steubenville, a daughter of Nelda Smith Merckle of Gallipolis and the late Robert Merckle. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Bridgeport and an employee of Bellaire Hospital, she was a graduate of Wheeling High School, and attended West Virginia University where she received her Masters in Psychology, and she also received many awards in her field. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Gray. Sherry is survived by a daughter Tessa (Rick) Gray Rodgers of Bridgeport, a sister Susan Sanford of Gallipolis, and a brother Robert H. Merckle of Orlando FL, two aunts June Lynskey, and Donna Authers, one uncle Howard Smith, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. According to Sherry's wishes she donated her body to West Virginia University Human Gift Program. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at 6 pm at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church 200 Howard St. Bridgeport. Memorial contributions may be made in Sherry's name to Tessa Rodgers in care of Mt. Zion Baptist Church 200 Howard St. Bridgeport, Ohio 43912.
