Sophia E. Yaterka, 92 of Wolfhurst and Adena died Monday March 5, 2012 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Martins Ferry. She was born November 23, 1919 in Wolfhurst, a daughter of the late Julian and Anna (Yakuch) Sokolowski. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Wolfhurst. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Yaterka, five sisters Stella Bumba, Anna Besozzi, Mary Sokolowski, Helen Siembab, and Josephine Tennant, two brothers, Joseph, and Vincent Sokolowski. Sophia is survived by a daughter Dorothy Valentine of Wintersville, four granddaughters; Carol (Ray) Potkoski Jr., Donna (Dirk) Thomas, Tammy (Mike) Bednar, and Cathy (Dave) Dietrich, ten great grandchildren; Erik (Megan Stewart) , Josh (Brittany),and Brian Potkoski, Johnnie, and Dirk Thomas, Mickey, Alex, and Taylor Bednar, Justin, and John Dietrich, a great great grandson Owen Potkoski. Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside Wednesday March 7, 2012 from 3-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church Wolfhurst at 10 am, with Rev. John Mucha officiating.
