Thomas A. Carroll, 85, of Martins Ferry, OH, died peacefully, Saturday, December 19, 2015 at UNC Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. surrounded by his family. He was born July 17, 1930 in Port Reading, NJ a son of the late Thomas E. and Anna Maria (Superior) Carroll. Tom was a very generous and kind man who never met a stranger. He influenced many people throughout his 85 years of life and anyone who had the pleasure of his acquaintence is the better for it. Tom worked for the former International Harvester Co. and Imperial-Clevite Co. and retired from the maintenance dept. of Martins Ferry City School District. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Wolfhurst, American Legion Post #38 and Ohio Valley River Elks #231 both of Martins Ferry and Bridgeport Forresters. Tom was a veteran of the US Army Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma A. (Zainoon) Carroll, his brother, Jess Carroll and sister, Dolores McIlvain. Surviving are his children; Sally (Peter) Moon of New Albany, OH, Susan (John) Martin of Winchester, England, Shelly (Pat) Cox and Thomas Carroll both of Raleigh, NC, ten grandchildren; John, Sarah, Wesley, Priscilla, Madison, Derek, Thomas, Andrew, Quinlan and Eliza, five great grandchildren; Isaiah, Jeremiah, Leo, Jane and Madrona, sister-in-law, Carole Carroll of Massillon, OH and brother-in-law, Robert McIlvain of Columbus, OH. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John F. Mucha officiating. Wake services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
