Obituary

Thomas Fregiato, 85, of Steubenville, OH formerly of Bridgeport, OH died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at his home. He was born May 8, 1926 in Bridgeport a son of the late Ambrose and Angela (Capisi) Fregiato. He was retired in 1989 from the Sammis Plant of Stratton, OH where he was a maintenance foreman. Tom was a member of the VFW Post #6906 of Toronto, OH, American Legion Post #0033 of Steubenville, OH, Toronto Lodge #583 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite of Steubenville, and a life member of the N.R.A. He was a veteran of WW II Oct. 1944 to June 1946 where he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Franklin CV13. Tom was also in the U.S. Army until 1950 and the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Dawn Hayman, brother Frank Fregiato and two sisters Rose Campiti and Janet Caprita. Surviving are his wife of 40 years Evelyn (Wheeler) Fregiato, three sons Sam (Marilyn) Fregiato of Bridgeport, Jim (Colleen) Fregiato of Glen Dale, WV and Scott (Lindsay) Fregiato of Pooler, GA, two daughters Susan (Brian) Miller of Rock Hill, SC, and Tina (Fregiato) Johnston and her boyfriend Jim Coen both of Wintersville, OH, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Thomas N. Thomas officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Military honors will be held Monday at 10:45 am at the funeral home by the VFW Belmont County Honor Guard.
