Thomas C. Gonot, 96, of Colerain, OH passed away November 7, 2016 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born February 14, 1920, a son of the late George and Nellie (Bendekgey) Gonot. Thomas was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain, OH, American Legion Post 38, Bridgeport Foresters, Martins Ferry Elks, St. John's Boosters, former Athletic Director of St. Anthony's Grade School, and an avid Yankee fan. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was the former co-owner of Gonot's bar in Bridgeport and the former Tri-State Rack in Martins Ferry, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary "Mimi" Gonot; infant brother, William; brothers, Edward, Fred, Louis, and Joseph Gonot; infant sister, Mary; and sisters, Nell Fitzpatrick, Margorie Trouten, and Elizabeth "Lee" Bowman. Thomas is survived by his children; George (Cathy) Gonot of Adena, OH, Mary Beth Taylor (Ken Ackerman) of Martins Ferry, OH; grandchildren, Meredith (Josef) Meholovich, Adam Gonot, Eric (Lindsey) Taylor, and Chad Taylor; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Skyler Meholovich and Liam and Madeline Taylor; sisters, Rosemary Weisal of Bridgeport, OH, and Patricia (Lou) Hersberg of Columbus, OH and Jean Baker of Florida. Friends will be received Wednesday, November 9 from 4-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd. Bridgeport, OH 43912, where wake services will be held at 4p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 10, at 10a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Colerain, OH. with Fr. Tim McGuire as celebrant. Interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Full military graveside will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
