Vera E. (Berry) Weitzel, 95, of Sebring, FL and formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Sunny Hills Assisted Living Facility, Sebring. She was born July 6, 1921 in Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late Ellis Eugene and Carrie (Krauter) Berry.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry and served as President of the former Ada Clark Smith group.
Vera retired as an executive secretary from Hazel Atlas Glass Company and Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation.
Lady Vera Weitzel, Past High Priestess, was a member of Isis Court #1 of Ladies Oriental Shrine. She was also Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star as well as an active member of the Order of the Amaranth. Vera was also a member of Wardah Husam Temple #53 and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Albert Douglas Weitzel, sisters; Bernalda (Bea) Coss and Mary Frances Berry and her niece, Carolyn Mae Coss Winne.
Surviving are her nephews; Kenneth L. (Carol) Coss of Sebring, FL and H. Thomas (Barbara) Coss of Greenville, SC and several great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, Thursday, March 9, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p. m. with Rev. David Stammerjohn officiating. Burial follows in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
