Obituary

Verna Louise (Steinke) Kiss, 95, of Bellaire, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, in Wheeling Hospital.  She was born on September 5, 1927, Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Fithen) Steinke.

Verna was retired from the former Hills Department Store in Benwood and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Martins Ferry.  She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing.  Verna also enjoyed canning, and all aspects of farm life.  She was a very social person who enjoyed making others laugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve Kiss; and three sisters, Helen Romick, Elsie Mirich and two infant siblings Dorothy Mae and Eddie.

Verna is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Charles Sechrest) Kiss, Steve (Susan) Kiss, Kathy (Tom) Galinski, Helen (Paul) Parnell, and John (Jenny) Kiss; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Megan), Keith (Magan), Krista (Pete), Diana (Mark), Brent (Katie), Erin (Rich), Michael (Emily) and Amber (Luke); and nineteen great grandchildren.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be sadly missed.

Friends may call Friday from 2-7 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am in the funeral home with Father Gary Zalenski and Pastor Larry Lewis officiating.  Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Bellaire.
