Walter W. Pettit, 70, of Williams St., Yorkville, OH, formerly of Marietta, GA and Martins Ferry, OH, died Mon., Feb. 5, 2007 at Martins Ferry. He was born Apr. 24, 1936 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Walter H. and Elizabeth L. (Carroll) Pettit. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page. He was retired from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and Your Extra Attic Storage of Marietta, GA. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #895, American Legion Post #38, and Eagles Aerie #456 all of Martins Ferry. Walter was a veteran of the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother David Pettit and a sister Hilda Pettit. Surviving are his wife Deanna (Deitch) Pettit, two sons Mark (Kay) Pettit of Wedowee, AL, and Matthew (Darlene) Pettit of Woodstock, GA, a daughter Misty (Vince) Tedeschi of Holly Springs, GA, a brother Paul (Valarie) Pettit of Stewart, OH, three sisters Beryl Guzel of Glendale, CA, Donna (James) Marsh of AZ, and Melba (Lucian) Anderson of Warwood, WV, three grandchildren Tanner and Ty Tedeschi and Jeff Moore and his mother-in-law Edith (Fleming) Deitch of Yorkville, Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Entombment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home prior to services by the Belmont Co. Council of the American Legion. Elks services will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
