Warren L. Hood, 63, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born July 7, 1952 in Akron, OH, a son of the late Edwin L. "Ted" and Constance C. "Connie" (Motto) Hood. He was a retired teacher and athletic director for Martins Ferry City Schools. Warren was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and the Liberty Engine Co. of the Martins Ferry Fire Department. Warren enjoyed a lifelong passion for sports. He participated as a baseball umpire for 27 years, basketball referee for 25 years, "Voice" of Purple Rider's football and inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. Warren was also proud of his travels to all 30 venues of the major baseball stadiums. Surviving are his sisters; Tacey Bayliss and Debbie Hood and brother, Jimmy (Missy) Hood all of Martins Ferry, nieces; Briana (Tim Fleming) Goddard of Martins Ferry and Connie (Robert) Chedester of Fredericksburg, VA, nephew, Shawn Hancher of Sherrard, WV, and great nephews, Mason & Kolton Goddard and Beckett Chedester. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martin s Ferry, OH, Thursday 12-4 & 6-8 pm where services will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Martins Ferry Fire Dept. will hold services Thursday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
