William F. Appenzeller, Sr., 79, of S. Zane Hwy., Martins Ferry, OH died Thursday, Mar. 16, 2006 at Valley Hospice Palliative Care, Steubenville, OH. He was born Jan. 6, 1927 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Charles F. and Sara D. (Wallace) Appenzeller. Bill retired as a Lieutenant with the Martins Ferry Police Dept. after 41 years of service. He was a member of: Grace Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry, St. Clairsville Lions Club and Past Dist. Governor of Lions District 13 G of Ohio, Fraternal Order of Police, Past Master of Ohio City Lodge #486 F. & A.M., Past High Priest Martins Ferry Chap. #173 R.A.M., Past Illustrious Master of Bellaire Council #87 of R. & S.M., Hope Commandary #26 K. T., Council of Anointed Kings of Ohio, Past Patron of Bridgeport Chapter #452 O.E.S., Amaranth Ft. Henry Court #8, Osiris Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters, Past President of Bel-Mon Shrine Club, Osiris Legion of Honor, Provost Guard, Osiris Hillbilly Clan #154, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, American Legion Post #38, and B.P.O.E. Lodge #895. Surviving are his wife Jo Anna "Joanie" (Winland) Appenzeller, his son William F. "Rick" (Debbie) Appenzeller, Jr. of Martins Ferry, Martha Ann Gonot of St. Clairsville, two grandchildren Melissa (Jason) Rice and Heather Appenzeller, two step-grandchildren David (Lori) Meyer and Amie Meyer, two great grandchildren Drake and Trent Rice, a step great granddaughter Katie Meyer, two nephews David and Donald Morrison, and three great nephews and three great nieces. Friends will be received Saturday from 6-8 PM and Sunday from 12-3 and 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Monday, Mar, 20, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. Burial follows in Belmont Co. Memorial Park, St. Clairsville, OH. A Service of Bereavement will be held Sunday at 12:30 PM followed by Masonic Ritualistic Services at 7 PM both in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 400 Hanover St., Martins Ferry, OH, 43935 or Osiris Hospitals for Children, c/o Osiris Temple, Monument Place, Wheeling, WV, 26003.
