Obituary

William C. "Bill" Franke, 90, of Colerain, OH died Mon., Jun. 26, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, OH. He was born Aug. 3, 1915 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Alfred L. and Estella V. (Cook) Franke. Bill was a retired car salesman for many years from the former Westlake Chevrolet and Bauer Ford Sales both of Martins Ferry. He was a retired bus driver for the Martins Ferry City School District. Bill enjoyed many summers at Seneca Lake with family and friends, but especially riding his motorcycle with his buddies. He was a member of the Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain Senior Citizens, and V.F.W. Post #8848 all of Colerain. Bill was also a 50 year member of Eagles Aerie #456 and American Legion Post #38 both of Martins Ferry. He was a member of Belmont Lodge #16 F. & A.M., St. Clairsville, OH, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville , and a veteran of the US Navy WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son William A. Franke, a brother Alfred, and a sister Dorothy Fitzsimmons. Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years Dorothy (Vickers) Franke, two daughters Cheryl (Tom) Bruney and Cathy (George) Gonot both of Colerain, a brother Robert (Jane) Franke of Colerain, a daughter-in-law Norma Nemeti Franke of Florida, six grandchildren Debra (Lucian) Moore of Logan, William A. Franke, Jr. of Grove City, Thomas (Jennifer) Bruney of Washington Court House, Beth (Jon) Greer of Front Royal, VA, Meredith (Josef) Meholvitch of Shadyside, and Adam Gonot of Columbus, five great grandchildren, Eli and Desirea Moore, Taylor Bruney, and Gunnar and Addison Greer. Friends will be received Tue., 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Wed., June 28, 2006 from 10 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM with Rev. John A. Brown officiating at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with military honors by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colerain Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 96, Colerain, OH 43916.
