Obituary

Dr. William G. Harris, MD Dr. William G. Harris, MD, 87, of Colerain, OH formerly of Bridgeport, OH, Martins Ferry, OH, and Shreveport, LA died Wed., Apr. 17, 2002 at home. He was born Jul. 31, 1914 in Martins Ferry a son of the late William and Edna Gould Harris. Dr. Harris was a 1939 graduate of George Washington Univ. College of Medicine, Washington, DC. He served in the US Army Medical Corp during WWII, completed his residency in Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University, and practiced at Martins Ferry Hospital, Marrero, LA, Dayton, OH, and retired from medicine in Shreveport, LA. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Martins Ferry. Dr. Harris served with the US Army 2nd Infantry Div. where he landed on Omaha Beach at D+1 and completed his tour of duty in 1945 in Czechoslovakia having been awarded a Purple Heart and the Silver and Bronze Stars. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Beryl Campbell Harris, and a sister Goldie I. Harris Mader. Surviving are four sons William G. Harris, II of Colerain, John A. Harris of Jonesboro, LA, Larry C. Bratton of Moundsville, WV, and Donald D. Bratton of Gulfport, MS, and three cousins Suzanne Gould Vickers, Margaret Roberts Vankirk, and Mary Jane Roberts, and two grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH Fri. 2-4 & 7-9 PM where services will be held Sat. at 1:00 PM with Rev. James Sine officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove with full military graveside honors by the Belmont County American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice or the American Heart Association.
