Obituary

William V. "Bill" Hartenstein, 84, of Monroe St., Martins Ferry, OH died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, OH. He was born Mar. 28, 1924 in N. Wheeling, WV a son of the late Howard H. and Vancie L. (Wilson) Hartenstein. Bill was a retired employee of Nickles Bakery of Martins Ferry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry where he was a Trustee and Elder. Bill was a Scout Leader of Troop #51 and a member of the Booster Club both of Martins Ferry and the Salvation Army Board. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, WW II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son William V. Hartenstein, Jr., and three sisters Betty L Edwards, Virginia Mumley, and Judith Redmond. Surviving are his wife Betty L. (Jarrett) Hartenstein, a son Neil T. (Linda) Hartenstein of St. Clairsville, OH, three daughters Patricia A. Hartenstein of Martins Ferry, Susan (Corky) Gehrig of Shadyside, OH, and Dorothy (Richard) Corvi of El Paso, TX, a brother Richard G. (Lois) Hartenstein of Wheeling, two sisters Jacky Henry of Connellsville, PA and Ruth Hodgkiss of Massillon, OH, three grandchildren Betsy J., Cody L. and Mickayla L. Corvi, several nieces and nephews and his two black beauties Sydney and Buddy. Friends will be received Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Friends will also be received Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry, OH, with Rev. Dr. John F. Helgeson and Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Deacons will hold services Wednesday at 7:30 pm in the funeral home. Full military honors will be held prior to services at the First Presbyterian Church by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W.
