Obituary

William James McConnaughy, 84, of Bridgeport, Ohio, died Tuesday July 5, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Wheeling on January 8, 1927, a son of the late Charles and Stella Burkhart McConnaughy. William was a retired employee of Bloch Brothers; a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; Bridgeport Foresters, a former volunteer at Heartland Nursing Home; and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He played softball in Warwood and Elm Grove for the Bloch Brothers League and was a very loyal New York Yankee and Notre Dame Fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marie Leona Zeik McConnaughy and a brother Charles McConnaughy. William is survived by two sons: Ron (Debbie) McConnaughy of Bridgeport and Brian (Carolyn) McConnaughy of Weirton, WV., a special friend and companion Carolyn Englehardt; a granddaughter: Cassie (Joel) Sansone of Warwood, WV., and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday 2 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, Ohio where vigil service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday July 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst, with Reverend John Mucha, as celebrant.
