William Sockman, Sr., 86, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at Carriage Inn of Cadiz, OH. He was born June 4, 1930 in Carrollton, OH a son of the late Francis Sockman, Sr. and Mary Emma (Furbay) Sockman. He retired from the former Vale Coal Mine Company. William was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, Pleasant Grove, OH and a veteran of the U.S. Army Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters; Geraldine Paull and Mildred Schmidt and brothers; James and Tom Sockman and Francis Sockman, Jr. Surviving are his children; Emma Runnion of Martins Ferry, Nancy Godman of Steubenville, OH, Linda (John) Dunlavy of Bridgeport, OH, Donald (Mary) Sockman of Newcomerstown, OH, Rick (Donna) Sockman of Bridgeport, William (Kim) Sockman, Jr., of KS, Richard Sockman of Bridgeport and Evonne Boldissar of NC, stepsons; William (Janis) Striker of Barnesville, OH and David Striker of Marion, OH, his sister, Hazel Morrison of Colerain, OH, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
